PHENIX CITY EXPRESS (PEX)

Take advantage of the Phenix City Express’ (PEX) convenient bus schedule and routes. 
PEX operates a fixed route and paratransit service within the city limits of Phenix City.  However, the PEX Fixed Route travels into Columbus, GA to drop passengers off at a METRA stop to allow riders to transfer to a METRA bus.  PEX also offers a paratransit service into Columbus, GA for medical visits only.

It’s an easy, inexpensive and convenient way to travel.  PEX is for anyone who needs transportation, wants to protect the environment, or wants to save money on gasoline costs.  Whether you are traveling to work, to school, or to shopping areas across town, PEX will get you where you want to go!

Drivers do not make change.  You must have correct change for each fare listed above.   Farecards can be bought from the bus driver.

$2.00 one way – Inside the city limits of Phenix City and
inside the city limits of Columbus for medical visits only

****Must be certified by a physician to ride the paratransit.****

  • The Central Activies Center (North and South Route Stop #1) is the transfer stop between the Northside and Southside Fixed Routes.

Public Notice and Proposed Program of Projects for FY-2017

The Lee-Russell Council of Governments/Phenix City Express is applying to the Alabama Department of Transportation for a grant to provide (Operational/Capital) assistance grant under 49 U.S.C. Section 5307 of the Federal Transit Laws, as codified. The grant will provide financial assistance for public transportation service for the residents of Phenix City during FY 2017.
The Funds will be used as federal assistance for:

The total program of project cost is $469,489. Projects are funded at fifty/fifty (50/50) operating and eighty/twenty (80/20) capital. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) share for the total program of projects is $287,705. The remaining funds will be provided by the Lee-Russell Council of Governments.
Copies of the detailed service description, proposed changes, and project budget may be obtained at the transit system office, 2207 Gateway Drive, Opelika, AL between 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m CST.
A public hearing will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. CST in the Conference Room at the Lee-Russell Council of Governments for public comment. This notice shall constitute the final program of projects for the Lee-Russell Council of Governments/Phenix City Express unless the scope of the project changes as a result of input gathered during the public hearing.
